Online storage options for digital photos

Kim Brush6 Comments

Our photos are precious. We want to protect them.  But HOW???  Choosing an online storage option for digital photos is a confusing job but I have some tips and ideas for you!

Computer’s crash.  CDs degrade.  Online companies disappear.

Honestly there is no perfect way to KNOW we can’t loose our photos.

But there are precautions we can take.

3 YUMMY recipes with NO gluten, dairy, rice, corn or eggs

The past week has been CRAZY!  Totally wild, fly by the seat of your pants crazy!

I was gone on a fun getaway with a friend for 3 days.  Great for me because I took off the mom hat for a while but was hard because I was walking a bunch and that make my hip REALLY grouchy!

We were in Arizona and the weather was so nice we sat out in the sun & got some relaxing hang out time before we flew home.

Back at home Steve was ferrying kids back and forth to the dress rehearsal of a play that they performed in on Thursday & Friday nights.  Then on Saturday we headed to Kansas City for a Bible Quiz day.

Exhaustion from running & not eating the right foods

Food has been hit and miss.  Seriously we didn't eat at home together all week.  When we go without a plan that is what happens.  We get run down and sick. It is harder to do our daily tasks.  Several kids said they were glad I was back to take over the meals again.

On Sunday I wrote a menu on my 2 week menu (free printable!).  Our menu will be on the Day to Day Adventures Facebook page tomorrow if you are curious or need some ideas!

recipes with NO gluten, dairy, rice, corn or eggs

Elizabeth. is still going without wheat, dairy, rice, corn & eggs.  As a family, our suppers are free of those items as well.  Breakfast and lunch are on your own.  I've been searching Pinterest & many blogs for recipes that appeal to everyone and are easy to make.

Meals are basically this:  meat, veggies & salad.  Snacks are fruit.  Simple yet difficult.

It is the little things we are realizing.  Yesterday I realized that our turkey meatballs have wheat in them.  Not sure how I missed that.  Also, the gluten free soy sauce she loves has cornstarch in it.  It has been rough but between the no bake cookies(recipe below) & cashew milk she is surviving.

Sigh

Anyway . . .

Trying New Recipes when you have food sensitivities - DaytoDayAdventures.com

new recipes we tried

German Chocolate Fudge Bites from Chocolate Covered Katie.  Seriously good.  We've made 3 batches of these in the past 10 days.

Very yummy!  Soak your dates & they won't be dry--ask me how I know!

No Bake Peanut Butter Pie also from Chocolate Covered Katie.  This was a practice dessert for Steve's birthday celebration.

Thumbs up from all.

Buckwheat Porridge from the Roasted Root.

A new food to us.

Buckwheat sounds like it should be avoided for us but buckwheat isn't wheat it is a seed that has no gluten in it.  It has a nutty taste and was a delicious new food for Elizabeth!

(No pictures because we ate them too fast!)

One BIG lesson

We've found that when you have to radically change your diet, there are still good foods out there.

You might have to try new things or change the recipes that you use.  Sometimes it is easier to start fresh with new meals than to try to recreate old meals using substitutes.

It never tastes the same as the original which leads to disappointment and frustration.  So trying new recipes is the plan of action right now.  Should lead to an interesting Thanksgiving meal . . . .

Getting ahead tomorrow means planning TODAY!

Getting ahead for tomorrow means planning ahead TODAY! - DaytoDayAdventures.com

My definition of getting ahead has changed in the past two months.  The time I spend on my feet is limited by my pain threshold for the day.

My hip pain is a bit bipolar.  It is either really ok.

Or not.

I'm thanking God for those good times.  The VERY painful times can happen just from turning the wrong way or standing up.  Randomly very annoying & limiting.

Getting ahead means . . .  planning

I'm NOT giving up on "doing" things.  But I need a plan.  Hip replacement surgery date is mid December.  That is 6 weeks away.  Then I will be in recovery mode through New Years and into January.

This weekend I spent a bit of time printing out my new 2016 planner!  I'm so excited about 2016!  Our family is anticipating a good year.  We have many plans and dreams ready to get started!

Getting ahead also means . . .

Doing what I can from my chair.  Delegating what I can’t

  • The temptation is to just sit in my comfy chair(which is relatively painless) and just binge watch Netflix.  Instead I'm working to put together a plan for the next few weeks that will make December & January flow better while I'm recovering from the hip replacement.

Be busy

  • Even if I'm sitting, I can be planning meals or making lessons for school ahead of time or setting up a cleaning routine for the family.
  • Having goals is the key to keep me from feeling overwhelmed
  • I’m not looking to do big projects in the next few weeks.  (Although I’d love to get my bathroom painted--anyone wanna come do it for me?)  But I’m looking for ways to make life easier for my family & myself during the recovery weeks.

Doing my Physical Therapy exercises

  • PT exercises are so challenging for me.  I like doing them but they make me hurt more so I keep avoiding them.  Pray I can do them at least a few times each week!

Setting up my planner for 2016 NOW!

  • There are a MULTITUDE things running around in my head right now.  So I am setting up my planner for November, December & on into next year.  This may not seem to apply to being organized right now but REALLY it does.  And it is FUN to set up a new planner!
  • Blog Success Planner(if you are a a blogger check it out--really!) is helping me to declutter my brain and put things all in once place. (affiliate link)

Now I'm not claiming any planner is the solution to everything.  But this one is definitely going to help me start 2016 right.

All the wonderful graphics & the bold, fun colors make me WANT to open it up each morning to see what I can get to work on.  And the content?

All I can say is WOW!

This is not just a planner.  It is set of mini-classes on goals, SEO, social media and lots more all rolled up in to one planner!

***If you are not a blogger --- there are TONS of printable Home, Mom or Homeschooling planners out there!  Here are a few I found in 5 minutes cruising around Pinterest.

Moving Ahead

I was listening to music as I wrote this post & the song Overcomer by Mandisa came on.  This song hits me hard every time I hear it.  It is such a wonderful reminder that I'm not alone & can keep moving forward while hanging on to His promises!  I'm not letting this fight get the best of me.

Anyone else looking ahead at the next couple of months trying to get it all together?  What are your ideas & hints?  Share what you are doing!  We all need all the help we can get!

Blessings for the week volume 13

Kim Brush3 Comments

I want to change things up a little this week.

I’ve been counting my joys each day on my personal Facebook page.  I do this each November before Thanksgiving.  Thankfulness is the key to my joy each day. Being thankful leads me to worship.

Quiet Worship - DaytoDayAdventures.com

It is easy to focus on what is not good or dragging me down.  If I count my joys at the end of the day then I turn my mind in the right direction.  Towards Jesus who deserves my praise.

Plus it is just a fun activity. Once I get going I see blessings in my life everywhere!

So here are some of the “best” things of my week.  I’d love to hear what you are counting as joy!

Best SOFT things to offset the HARD things of the week

Sweats, cozy socks, my recliner & hoodies are my hiding place.  When my hip hurts this is how I cope.

Best challenge

Laughing with Elizabeth while trying to do planks at Physical Therapy.

Best turn around from BAD to good

I’ve had a cold for two weeks.  FINALLY at the tail end of the week I am getting better.

Best foods to battle a sore throat

Oatmeal, chicken soup, hot tea, cold smoothies

Best change

I had my hair chopped this week.  Fun short hair that is easy to care for makes me VERY happy.

Best recipe I made this week

I made this recipe on Sunday and we’ve been eating on it all week.  LOVE me some “Butterfinger Bars.” LOVE that it is full of healthy fats and that Elizabeth can eat these as a treat.
